PRS-950 Just ordered for $250 thru Sony

I wanted to order the PRS 950 but couldn't find any discounts anywhere. I called up Sony and told them I couldn't afford the full price and the guy told me tough s**t, that's how much they cost. So I called back the next day and spoke to someone else, he gave me $50 off. It's not a whole lot off but it's better than nothing. Plus I got the free shippng, so I was pretty excited. There was no way I was paying $300 plus tax for one....I can't wait till it gets here! Too bad they are not making them in black, that's why I didn't buy one on Black Friday-they had them at the student store for $237 but I wanted a black one.

I'm excited, yay!

I too just ordered a new 950 through Sony with a discount, but I only got 10% which equals $30 off. I would've loved to have gotten it for $250 instead of $270 but the lady that helped me was only willing to give the 10%. Good on you for trying a couple of times to get an operator who would give you the good deal (although it sounds like the first one wouldn't give you any deal at all).

However, when I was hesitant the lady also gave me free expedited shipping which she said was a $25 value, so I'm getting it sooner. So all in all I'm happy with the value I got.

I think the lesson here is that Sony, for the time being anyway, is giving some good discounts if you call up to order and "haggle" with them. I hope others on the fence take advantage of this if they can.

I know, the first guy I talked to said they would do the 10% but after tax it was almost $300 again! I figured if I got the right person they would help me out...you know they give some pretty decent discounts even when there are no sales. I got the $50 off and paid $266 with tax.

I just called Sony (via Skype - as I live in Poland) and got 10% off for the reader and 15% for the cover.
Not sure if I'm gonna get this, anyhow: my english sucks (I even probably misspelled my email address, so I don't have a confirmation), I'm not sure if they noted the address down correctly, the shipment is to the friend's aunt (she's coming to Poland for Christmas and she's supposed to take it with her) and the item has to be delivered to her before December 15, in order to be there before her flight.
But I hope there'd be a happy end in the end of this story

10% is just a negotiated discount.
I guess 50$ was still possible, if it weren't for my english - I just gave up having this 10%

After Christmas I bet the price will drop.

Latinandgreek, to get 10% you have to call Sonystyle through the number on their website to order. They will not mention it; you have to ask for a deal (I used the excuse that the Black Friday deal just ended so I was wondering if they could offer me some similar deal). You may get even better than 10%, but it seems they're willing, at the moment, to give at least 10% on everything. emonti got an even bigger discount, I also got expedited shipping (worth $25) and grissley got 15% on a case, so I would suggest haggling as much as you're willing to. And we have no idea how long they'll continue giving discounts over the phone - it could only be a holiday season thing, it could last for a long time, who knows?

grissley, emonti got very lucky and had to call twice. Myself and another poster, hydin, both only got the 10% (that seems to be their go-to discount at the moment). Perhaps if you press or have the patience to call until you get a willing representative you can get $50 off, but it isn't guaranteed. Be lucky - they would only give me 10% on my case!

Also, check your e-mail right away. They send a notification there immediately and then you can sign in to a Sonystyle website account and check all the details. Then, if there's an error in the address or anything, you can call and fix it before it's sent out.

I just got off the phone with them, $255 plus tax with free shipping.

If you're waiting on a deal, try calling them. The guy that I talked to gave me 15% ($45) off after I asked if I could buy it at last week's sale price. The only way to make it faster would be to cut the price on their web store.

Ohmigosh you guys! So, it was supposed to be delivered yesterday but bad weather, so no reader. Then, they were supposed to deliver it today but again, bad weather so no reader. Well, I guess Fed-Ex requires a signature, so someone has to be home (we have no neighbors) to sign for it. I call Fed-Ex and the woman I spoke to said, "Oh-it's at this location, you can go pick it up." I proceed to drive 45 minutes away to go get this thing and....they can't find it. I can't put a hold on it so I can pick it up tomorrow and I have to wait until they make 3 DELIVERY attempts and then I have to go pick it up anyway. Basically, I'm on their time. I'm in tears. I won't be able to pick this thing up until Friday next week (if I'm lucky).

WWHHHHHYYYYY MMMEEEEE!!!!!!????

I'm so sad!
