Help with Mobipocket and loading stuff

I just unpacked and charged my brand new sexy burgandy (looks red to me) JetBook. Went to my public library ebook website and found the epub books I want are all checked out. Found two mobi books to check out. Downloaded mobipocket reader to my PC. How the heck do I get them to show up on my JetBook? When I try to move or copy mobi asked for my PID. I only have the one for my PC. Do I also have to go through the SD card like with the epub books? Help! I so want to read something current on my JetBook. I also want to buy books from Borders and B & N. How and where should those go to get them to my BEautiful new toy?

Your Jetbook does not support MOBI DRM (encryption). It is possible to strip the DRM, and if you delete the resulting ebook within the lending period I suppose that is ethically ok but it is definitely illegal to strip DRM from lending library ebooks in the US. See Apprentice Alf's Blog for everything you might want to know about DRM, its very first enty (last page) is the most interesting. The simplest approach now is to use the tools_v2.2a bundle and its Calibre plug-ins.

I did not understand that mobipocket had DRM. I have downloaded calibre but how do I get book there? Can I move borrowed library books from Adobe to calibre? I also have a bmp file I would like to load, how do I get books and things into calibre? I thought I would just put things on an SD card, but, I am unable to get my jetbook to recognize my SD card. We have tried two different brand new cards. I am afraid I will have to send it back because the slot is bad.

You can move your mobipocket book to Calibre. Once you have downloaded the library ebook into Mobipocket Reader, you will find the file in the path my documents/my publications. Loading the book into Calibre will not solve the issue of DRM, however. As Wallcraft mentions above, there are tools that will do this. Only when the book iis DRM free can it be read on your jetbook.

You will have this same issue with Epub & PDF format library ebooks unless your Jetbook supports Adobe DRM'd encryption.

cheers

So the two mobipocket downloads didn't cost you anything. I assume you can read the in "Mobipocket for PC"

If Mobi pocket for PC does not allow you to transfer the two e-books over then there must be DRM on those e-books. I have used Mobipocket for PC to copy non DRM mobi and prc e-books over to my jetBook as well as my Aluratek Libre Pro (ALP).

I assume your Library uses Overdrive and ADE DRM ePub/PDF for distribution of e-books. I also noticed that you were targeting specific e-books. I found that most of the time my selections were also out on loan due to the fact that they were either recent publications or very popular. May I suggest doing a general search using keys such as desired language, format (ePub) and then a specific gendre instead of an e-book title. Be sure to check off the box stating "Only books that are immediately available". By doing this you can methodically step through subjects that interest you and you may find other authors that may bridge the gap while waiting for your specific desires.

As you download an e-book via ADE - check it out right away before downloading the next one in your check out list. If it turns out that you are not happy with it - jump out to the Libray - Borrowed bookshelf of ADE and selecting that book's icon (top left corner of icon produces a drop down action list), hit "Return e-book" and that e-book will be removed from the list of e-books loaned out to you from your Local library. After you have checked out your whole list you can go back and re-fill and spots freed up by returned e-books.
