Geez, I wonder if some sort of machinist could make those out of aluminium or something.

Actually not much of a machinist -- and it's not too hard to make out of 6" Steel Rulers.

Working on one for my cover and having more trouble with the cover. The bracket came out MUCH better than the stock one.

I'll post more when I've got it finished (Hopefully in the next few days).

What someone else did in another thread here is buy a sony 600 cover off ebay (8.99 with free shipping), pulled it, cut it, then reattached to make the cover fit the 650. You could try that.

That sounds great! I'd really like to see how you made the bracket - it would be good to ditch velcro for a proper spine in my cover.

Actually it was 3x $1.50 rulers at Northern Tool, but they were on sale at the time -- Might get away with two, though.

I HATE the plastic brackets ever since one broke on me at the wrong time. I've been thinking "It can't be that hard to make something more durable."

The breakthrough was noticing that a #4 machine screw fit perfectly into the hardpoints. Once I saw that, the design came easy. Bend a metal strip at the right lengths, drill holes in the right places, and glue a nut to the outside. Screw in the screws and Viola! A bracket that will hold a Sony AND you don't have to bend anything to get it out -- just unscrew it!

The construction isn't without pitfalls, but none of them major. It still came together nicely. The cover part is still taking time for me to clean up, but I'll post more detailed instructions when I'm done.

Hi
Inspired by CraftyDan I had ago here is my effort.
Sony 650 cover I made this.
You tube vid. Link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRXbipdkK2w

I used, 4 DISC / ROUND MAGNETS 8x1 mm NEODYMIUM. 20 x = £2.81 e bay

Oh and I used MECCANO PART NO 12B X 2 ANGLE BRACKET ZINC. 2 x = £2.05 e bay
To hold book in place might not be the perfect thing but is working for now.

Nice job!

I assume those were magnets on the inside edges? What did you use to mount them?

That is a nice solution to the bracket! Don't need to be a machinist, just need an erector set!

Thanks for the #4 screw idea. I haven't tried it yet but it is a great idea!
