Unfortunately, Fictionwise has now dropped ALL Adobe DRM ePub content which seriously cuts down on items to buy. It now only actually has "Secure eReader" which required reading content on a PC. Mainstream eReaders like Kindle, Kobo, Sony, Nook are now verboten. 50% off nothing is still ... *sigh* ... nothing. There remain the DRM-free multi-format books which offer interesting material but generally no mainstream stuff. Pity. The disintegration of the service continues. |

Nook reads ereader format (at least, that's what all the lit says). In the early B&N days, I never knew which I would get, in their store (and they still sell some ereader format files there). So, nook, phone and pc/netbook/tablets can all read their DRM'd selections. Multi-format is readable by pretty much everyone. |

The current nook and my jetbook lite can both read secure eReader, but I have moved on to ePub now and don't like buying other formats. I can convert the books, but sometimes this can cause problems with the TOC and other weird formating errors. Still if I can find something I want 50% off is a great deal.

Thanks for the correction. I didn't know the Nook read secure DRM ereader format.

Just went and stocked up on Analog SciFi magazine from June through December. I write SciFi so I wanted to get some copies of that and also Asimov (which I had stocked up on with previous 50% off coupons from FW). Now I'm considering Alfred Hitchcock magazine as well next time they have a sale like this, just because I enjoy mysteries and at two bucks a pop, the magazine becomes a bargain. Thanks. Eric |

I'm glad that the coupon was useful for some people. I bought a bunch of books as well. I like FW because of the My Bookshelf feature that allows you to re-download multi-format books in additional formats. This comes in very handy now that I bought the Kindle and can download in Kindle/mobi format.

Darn. I just scanned for Kathy Reichs (0 novels) , Janet Evanovitch (0 novels), Terry Pratchett (only 2 novels). Nothing to fill my backlist of books to convert to electronic.

coupon still works. If they still had epub, I might have bought more - I don't know why they got rid of it. I'll have to convert the ereader format I bought to epub which is a pain, but at 50% off it was a good price.

This isn't a bad deal for the magazine issues (Analog, Asimov, Ellery Queen, Alfred Hitchcock). At $2/issue for the regular issues and $3 for the double issues you're getting a year's worth for $22 or $1.83/month. They are $3/month from amazon and there you get the added "bonus" of DRM. Sadly, Fictionwise seems to only have the last 6 months of back issues available now. They used to have a couple of years worth available. Just another nail in the coffin... -Marcy |

It sure does. And, it also makes me wonder how long FW will be around. Sooooo, I have slowly been going through my bookshelf, making sure I have safely downloaded ALL of the books I've bought from them. I bought an awful lot of books from FW in the good old days. And I've also been making sure that I have downloaded the multi-format ones in several standard formats. Yeah, yeah, I know Calibre can format-shift non-DRM books, but it's easier just to download the different formats directly, if available... It is SO sad to see the slow death of what used to be a great e-bookstore! - Sue BTW, if you like mysteries, a lot of Aaron Elkins backlist is coming available on FW in multi-format. And, just off the top of my head, FW also has multi-format backlists of Ted Wood, Richard Prather, Nancy Herndon, Lora Roberts, a few Ross MacDonald, a (very) few Rex Stout. Some are sort of pricey, but the FW coupons help with that. | |

It might be wise to go in to one's library of purchased books and download them in ALL THE FORMATS availabe - just in case and to be safe. The time seems to be coming...if you know what I mean. It's sad. I used to spend hundreds of dollars a year, probably $400 a year for about 3 years running, but in the past year I've only spent about $20. Don |
