Gmail details
I’m not sure whether I have the email details in Calibre 0.7.27 set correctly to send ebooks etc to my Kindle.
I’ve gone into calibre Preferences - Sharing books by email - and in the upper window I’ve entered the Kindle’s email address (my.name@kindle.com). In the lower window I wasn’t sure what was needed. I tried just putting... Send mail from: my.name@gmail.com but I got a failed message as follows... Traceback (most recent call last): File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\wizard\send_email.py", line 108, in test_email_settings File "site-packages\calibre\utils\smtp.py", line 87, in sendmail File "site-packages\calibre\utils\smtp.py", line 79, in sendmail_direct IOError: Failed to send mail: SMTPServerDisconnected('Connection unexpectedly closed',) Log: Find mail exchanger for kindle.com Traceback (most recent call last): File "site-packages\calibre\utils\smtp.py", line 73, in sendmail_direct File "smtplib.py", line 685, in sendmail File "smtplib.py", line 509, in ehlo_or_helo_if_needed File "smtplib.py", line 383, in ehlo ![]() File "smtplib.py", line 340, in getreply SMTPServerDisconnected: Connection unexpectedly closed So I entered my gmail details under Mail Server. This time the Send Mail test worked and I was able to send an ebook to the Kindle. My Amazon account is set to allow emails from this gmail account. Is it correct that I should need to input the Mail Server details for the email function to work? Thank you for any help or advice. |

OK thanks I've done that and it works fine. I'm just curious about why it says "optionally" use a server?

because calibre can act as a mail server itself. Unfortunately, because of various poorly thought out anti-spam strategies in force today, this is unlikely to actually work.
