Count Me In

After much review and thought, I have joined the JetBook team. Just got a new JBL and I am loving it. Upgraded the firmware without much problem. Got my ebooks (most were from B&N) over to it and I'm reading with pleasure. Was a difficult decision for me because of all the new technology coming out at very attractive pricing but I ended up with the JBL because of the form factor, the ability to use about every format out there, I didn't need all of the additional features like wi-fi or 3g or MP3 or web browsing, etc. Just needed a dependable e-reader that I could get in my coat pocket. The comments on this forum convinced me the JBL was what I needed. Because of some left over credits from a vendor, I ended up getting it for $85 shipped. Can't beat that. Thanks go out to all of you for helping me make the decision. I expect this will serve me well for some time and I'll be checking in with you folks on a regular basis. Special thanks to Ken and GA Russell. You folks added a lot of insight to my decision.

Since the jetbook and the Aluratek look and act so much a like, do you think there is a remote possiblity that they were made by the same company with the same blueprints?

I think that they are the same or almost the same. And the possibility is not remote, is concrete:

Welcome TG1955, to the JBL. I hope you have as much luck with your's as I have had
with those I've purchased. There are some nice new toys on the horizon, but none of
them would likely diminish the use I get out of my JBL. At some point I'll get a good
larger, but light weight and with a long lasting battery, color reader, for magazines,
but the JBL will still be my portable library of choice.

jbcohen;
The regular Jetbook and the Libre Pro hardware are both made by the same
company, and share the same basic "reference design". The Jetbook Lite hardware
is a little different (no audio and powered by AA batteries) but shares much of the
same design considerations. For practical purposes though, it is a separate device
from the regular Jetbook or the Libre Pro.

The software for all three devices makes them very distinctive. While it may be
possible to exchange the firmware between the regular Jetbook and the Libre Pro,
it is not made easy by the firmware developers and you need a high level of basic
understanding of embedded linux software development, to use the tools needed.

Luck;
Ken

You're welcome Teleguy, and welcome to MobileRead!

Hope you enjoy your JBL as much as I have enjoyed mine. One tip: I keep my expectations low because of the low price. That keeps me happy!
