Dead K3 - any suggestions?

Hi everyone, a 2 week old K3 which has worked beautifully died yesterday. Garbled text on the screen. Hard reset (hold power switch for 20+ seconds) does nothing.
Any suggestions?

I have known people who have gone through 8 or 9 Kindles before they got one that worked properly. When the K2 came out it was due to sun fade. More recently someone on Kindle Boards got K2's with problems with the MP3 player, the speakers, and a few other things.

I guess I don't understand your goal here. You aren't willing to take the time to let Amazon walk you thru a few Troubleshooting steps before they agree to overnight your replacement, but you'd like for us to suggest a few Troubleshooting steps?

Try a factory reset and then download one book and see if it clear out your problems.

Then ---- call Amazon. And they'll walk you thru a couple of Troubleshooting steps and if they don't work they'll send a new one out.

Or ... just call Amazon. My Mom's Kindle 2 did that funky split screen thing last week and her Service call was under 10 minutes and her replacement was in her hands the next day. They really do try to make it as painless as possible, as painless as it can be with a wonky electronic device.

If you can't read the screen to do a factory reset, I'm sure someone can post the exact sequence of button presses from the Home screen to achieve this on a K3.

The K2US, for example would be:
"Home"
"Menu"
down
down
down
down
down
"click (push 5-way straight down)"
"Menu"
down
down
(if there's an update bin waiting to be installed, add another "down")
"click"

Sorry I wasn't clear - this is my 4th because I like them so much, the first one I have problems with in fact (I bought it for a colleague). Though I sold my KDXG because I was fed up with the lack of PDF functionality update - and this makes me very suspicious of the type of support I'll get from Amazon, which is why I asked people around here. Thanks for your replies. I'll send pictures tomorrow.

I would still like to know if you are having the problem with a specific book or with every book and page.

What exactly do you mean by garbled text? If you've getting diagonal patterns and lines everywhere then you've cracked the glass layer inside the screen. This only happens due to an impact or pressure on the screen.
