How long was it missing and could it have been damaged or just sitting on a shelf that you had forgotten about?

I would suggest plugging it in overnight (or at least 8 hours) and see what happens. I had a (different) reader once that had drained so "dry" that the light wouldn't come on when I plugged it into the adapter. I had to charge it 24 hours before it fully charged - then it worked as expected, and the light lit up with the next charge.

Leave it plugged into the AC for a *minimum* of 8 hours. Sometimes the battery is so dead it can't reliably fire the red LED.

I remember something similar happening with my 600. The battery was too dead to do anything.

SonyChick you might try resetting it while charged in as well. A Sony tech told me about this when my 600 had battery issues. While it's plugged into the wall, stick the pin in the reset button and power on the unit, then release the reset button. It might help to google it to double check if that was exactly it, but I'm pretty sure it was.

There might not be enough power in it to keep the light lit. I'd try the recommended overnight charging. You might have to reset it, too.

The USB cord is known-useless when the 505 is dead on charge. But an AC cord, to the circular charge port, should work. Try another AC charger (borrow someone's PSP charger)?

well im not sure about method; i simply did as they told me to do, i plugged it in with the ac charger overnight, then the next morning i plugged it into the USB cord, i pressed the reset button repeatedly(although im not sure if it took the screen was still blank) and about an hour later i checked up on it and the screen was on, it was a great relief.
