Gamebooks on Kindle 3
Hello,
I just recently got interested in Kindle and now strongly consider buying a Kindle 3. I also found a lot of useful information, but there is one thing I was wondering about: Would it be possible to create Gamebooks for Amazon Kindle? For those of you who don't know what I mean, here is a Wikipedia article: Article on Gamebooks All that is needed is some type of Hyperlink feature, similar to the one in Table of Contents, but within the document. That way, you could jump to the necessary parts and therefore create these kind of books for Kindle. Thanks Strainer |

It's completely possible for the Kindle. It's just an embedded and advanced for of a Table of Contents.

Here's a pageful
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_no...ntures&x=0&y=0 Heres a link that will take you to the kindle book page, not to be confused with the kindle store. Anything entered in the search box will show only kindle books or games. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss?ur...rds=&x=18&y=21 |

Thanks a lot for all your answers, great to hear that these things are possible. What would interest me now is some sort of guide on how to create these gamebooks yourself, will certainly check that out soon.
Another thing that interested me and seemed kinda obvious: Interactive Fiction. Obviously, Parchment seems an obvious choice there, but it only allows to play while you're online with your Kindle, I guess an offline Interpreter would have some advantages considering battery life and Saving. |

After some research, the best tool for writing these kind of books seems to be Twine. It is also the only one I found to be working on Windows 7 x64.
I will look into the possibilities of converting these books to mobi format, which could cause some problems, but make the linking a lot easier. |

For Interactive Fiction, KIF does that natively on the kindle:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=101876 The mobi format would only work if you replace all page turn references with hyperlinks. This is because mobi doesn't use page numbers but uses locations. If you absolutely need to preserve the page numbers, then PDF is better. |

I've been trying out various methods of creating gamebooks for the Kindle, but wasn't very succesful.
The exported .html files of the various Gamebook-Creation Softwares out there didn't work at all, the linking didn't convert correctly. Unfortunately, the same is true for .rtf files, Calibre and MobiPocket won't convert those correctly with the linking possible. Does any of you have a sample file where the linking works on the Kindle. (Or does it only not work in Kindle Previewer?) ![]() Edit: After some more days of research all my questions have cleared themselves. Google and time are good friends sometime.
