Black or silver?

Hi,

I would like to know what you think about the device colour. I would think that black is better, because it would enhance the apparent contrast of the page. But I would be happy to hear your opinions abut this, especially from people who have tried both colours.

Thanks in advance.

I have a 505 in silver, and have no problems with the colour. It certainly doesn't detract from my reading experience (although that's a personal judgement).

That said, I'm looking at getting a 650 in black - solely because I think the 650 looks better in black (again, a personal judgement). But if the silver (or red, come to that) were cheaper than the black, or the black wasn't available when I come to buy - guess what?

I suppose what I'm saying is, get whichever appeals to you - your liking your own device is more important than someone else finding its colour distracting (or not). I find that the only time I really even notice the colour is when I'm not reading.

I have a silver 350 and I must say that indoors it is great, but outside the chrome plated buttons are very reflective and you can easily get a reflection of the Sun in your eyes. Not good! The case itself is not too bad outside, but dark would be better. I notice from the photos on the internet that the colored models like the black 650 have colored matching buttons. I should think they would be less reflective. I used to have a black 900 and I really liked the dark color much better than the silver. Unfortunately Sony only offers the 350 in silver and hot pink in the USA, and I don't want the latter!

When I was purchasing my 650, I was set on getting a black one...but all the store had in stock were red ones, so I ended up with red. If I had to do it over again, I think I would still get the red...I really do like the color and don't find it distracting at all.

Also, I have a silver 505 and I spent many happy hours reading from it.

I had a silver 505, and loved it. I felt the need to keep the silver tradition alive, so my 650 is silver too. I like the shiny, futuristic, new tech look to it, especially in the black/grey case.

I have the silver 650 and love the colour. It's in the red 650 cover and the silver and dark red contrast is really nice. I read it outside and don't find the silver reflective or distracting. Even though black is classic, I have everything else from my notebook, tv, mp3 player, PS3, etc. are all in black (except for the Wii). I needed something in silver to break it up!

If you read in direct sunlight a lot, the black might heat up more. Just a thought.

Those of us who have silver Sonys realize that we are 'special.' We find it easier to get a cab on rainly days, have, as a rule, our foods served at better temperatures, and rarely if ever break the points off our pencils. And we never run with scissors!

All Sony owners are equal, but some are more equal than others.

When I bought my 650, I had to have the red. There was no question. It just looks snazzier.

I think that my silver PRS-350 looks very cool, but I am always aware of the frame due to its reflective nature. The white frame of my Aluratek "disappears" when I read on that device. So I'd say that a flat, matte color is probably the best choice for a reader.
