Second eReader
I am toying with the idea of purchasing a second reader, i just love my K3 but would like a bit bigger screen at times for PDF's .
Also now after reading with an ereader i would like a spare as i would hate it if anything happened to it, and i had to be without one. I am thinking the DX but i am also wondering if it is a wiser move to have the second reader to be one that will accept a wider format range. Would like to hear from those of you with a second reader , better to stick with the same brand as the first one or go different?? Whatever i got it would have to have bigger screen than my K3. (Mind you i love the size of this for reading in bed.) ![]() |

I have a K1 and a DXG. I like that I can sync up reading materials easily. So far I have only used the K1 when I am at the beach or near water or in anenvironment that I was worried about it being damaged. Otherwise I use my DXG.
I guess I would say buy a different e-reader if the Kindle is lacking something for you. So if you really want to read library books or if there are books you have not been able to find for the Kindle but you can find them in EPub. The larger sized e-readers are limited. There is the Sony, DX, and Pocketbook. The Nook Color is 7 inches. |

I've been pleased with the iPad for PDF. There have been a few files that have displayed wonky in one app, but not another. At this point, I've got 3 apps that can handle PDF on the iPad, and one or more can display just about anything I've thrown at it.
And the Kindle app will also allow you to Whispersync with the K3 with the Kindle app. I've been syncing between my iPad and iPhone and have found it to be a nice feature, especially since the iPad isn't really all that portable away from home. I just wish I could side-load to the Kindle app via WiFi rather than mucking around in the iMess, as I prefer the Kindle app over iBooks and Stanza. It's a bit more expensive than a DX, but you get additional capabilities. If I wasn't such a heavy library user, I'd already own a Kindle 3 and iPad. I've been thinking about getting one anyway! |

I don't consider the IPad an e-reader. It is a tablet that can read e-books and PDF's.
I would rule out an IPad because of the cost, the weight, and it has a backlight. If you are looking for a tablet, the IPad is probably the best option out there if you can afford it. Personally, I was not looking for a tablet so the DX made sense for me. The nice thing about the IPad is that you have access to all the different e-reader Apps, which opens up all of their bookstores. The ones that synch, like the Kindle, do sync. |

Thanks for your responses, i didn't think about the syncing between the Kindles, so that is also a valid point to consider.
No i wasn't thinking of a tablet, as a migraine sufferer i have learnt that the eink screen is the only one i can read on for as long as i want without getting a migraine. How long has the current DX been out? guess i'm wondering how far off a newer model is likely to be, hence probably worth my while to wait and see what they come out with. |

The DXG was released about a month before the K3 was announced. It has not been upgraded so that the firmwares match. There is speculation that that will happen but Amazon has not said anything about it yet.
