SD card options
What is the maximum capacity SD card we can use for both the Jetbook and the JBL? I have seen users who are getting 4GB and larger which implies that the slot is SDHC, but I am not sure this is true for both the JB and the Lite as well. Unfortunately, the Ectaco site is sorely limited when it comes to accurate specs. Have you noticed the new Mini never mentions any USB connection, even at the Newegg sales site?
Thanks |

It looks to me like Ectaco mixes the specs for the Jetbook devices, all the time.
It's like they are using a single boilerplate description when providing product info to retailers. I don't know how many times I've seen an MP3 capability or a Li-lon battery listed for the JBL, in at least part of the description. To answer your questions for the JBL at least, it does support SDHC supposedly up to 32GB. I tried a 16GB SD card in mine once and it seemed to be working fine. The thing is though, anything over 4GB makes very little sense for the JBL, I have ~7000 ebook files on a 2GB SD card at the moment and there is still almost half a gigabyte left on the SD card. It makes for a lot of files in some of the ~50 menu category folders. My "SciFi" folder menu is 126 pages and takes about 20 sec to load, my "Action" folder menu is 157 pages and takes a couple seconds longer to load, "Mysteries" is 151 pages. Unless I were to start having a lot of much larger files (perhaps the .mp3 files for a JB) I would rather use two 2GB SD cards than have so many files to manage on a single 4GB card. Anything over the 4GB would likely be a real pain. Luck; Ken |

The jetbook will take an 8GB SDHC card. I have a 1GB SD card and it's more than enough for me.

And remember that you can have multiple memory cards so you can have an unlimited number of books on all of your cards. I had a friend that had a sony and had ten 16gb SDHCs and was looking for an eleventh, man he must have had a lot of books.

It's about 4000 ebooks per GB, so 160 x 4000 = 640,000 ebooks
Gutenberg.org claims only "over 33,000 ebooks". 1/19th of what your friend has. ( The whole of Gutenberg should fit on a little over half of a 16GB SD card. ) Barns&Noble claims "over 1 million titles" in their e-books section. Your friend has more than half of the number of e-books that B&N has for sale? Luck; Ken |

![]() Anyhow, thanks for the info. I don't need the larger cards, I just wanted to know whether the HC format would work as I plan to order a few 4GB cards. As it is, I barely have 1GB full at 1400 titles. Last edited by chas0039; 10-22-2010 at 05:26 PM. |

I use a 2 gig card per the manual and keep 3 or 4 audio books onboard and 50 or so epubs or mobis. 2 or 3 audio books can use a full gig, so a 4 gig card might be worth a try.
I'm on my 2nd warranty Jetbook in 9 months and am going to try something different with this one. My first Jetbook would not be recognized as a USB device and had to be loaded through the card and the second had checksum errors and could not be upgraded. The latter also would cause my Windows to freeze. I'm choosing to NOT put anything on the flash drive of this Jetbook, and only use the SD card for storage and loading; that way hopefully nothing will go corrupt or freeze and nothing can be disrupted. Ectaco has been very supportive for me and I want this one to last. |
