Collections glitch?

I noticed that I could create a new one "on the fly", but when I went to add a book, I got a (sort of) error message, referring me to the user's manual. So, is it really necessary to keep an phantom collection (re-nameable), with a "placeholder" book in it, just in case?

if you just go into the new collection then press options you can add to collection from there and it all works fine, no idea why they do that message, daft really when all you need to do is press options to add books......
