Hi!
As you might know, you can get the daily editions of "Le Monde" in PDF or HTML for 5€/month. This is the full version, not only some articles like on the AvantGo version. I'm getting some problems in converting their demo html with IsiloX 4.x beta 2. The menu you can see on the left at http://www.lemonde.fr/s/demo_edition...408/index.html isn't working after the conversion. And i don't see any options in IsiloX about menus conversion. Can anyone help me plz? To test Le Monde HTML with scroll Menu: http://www.lemonde.fr/s/demo_edition...tml/030408.zip |

I've experimented with a rather clunky workaround.
I downloaded the "simplified" version available from here and unzipped it. I ended up with a folder named 030408. I used the file named "index" in that folder as the starting page for iSiloX and set the Depth at 2. The resultant iSilo file was 401kB. It appears to have all the stories and images from the complete paper, though I haven't checked that in detail. Each html page starts off with a series of links, and you have to scroll down to find the text of a particular story. So, as I said, pretty clunky. Even clunkier is the fact that when you receive the paid for up-to-date zip files, you will have to change the file location every day in iSiloX before you run it - presumably all you need to do is change the folder name to represent the date of the newspaper. Tomorrow I'll experiment with the other zip - the one with the image de la une et menu déroulant. I imagine I'll have to make sure I don't get the image of Page 1, since it won't be very readable. Anyone know of a better method? (There must be one!) |

I tried that too and the result isn't very.. *nice*.. you have to scroll down, click twice to go to a specific article etc..
The new version with the menu should be much better and i don't really get why the new IsiloX 4 can't convert it.. well it can but you just get the 1st page on the menu.. if you change the menu you don't get anything |

I tried converting the version with the pulldown menu and it appears to work perfectly. The home page has the pull-down menu at the top, with the list of headlines for the particular section underneath. When you click on a headline it goes straight to the text of the story. If you then go "back" you're taken back to the original menu. If you click on the drop down menu and select one of the items, you immediately move to the list of headlines for that section. Works perfectly.
How did I do it? The important thing is to start by opening the "Index" file from the unzipped folder of files. You use this as your starting page and set a depth of 2. I'm going to try to attach the pdb file, but last time I tried to attach a file it didn't work, so don't hold your breath! (Incidentally, is there an equivalent idiomatic phrase in French to "don't hold your breath"?) |
