Jump to Author from home?

Hi. This is an annoying noob question I know but I have read the manual and searched the forums but I have not figured it out.

I have about about three hundred texts loaded on my Kindle 3 divided in to ten categories. I usual select what to read from the Home by going to a category and browsing but if I want to pull up books by a certain author I have to page to it with the home set to list by Author or do a search for the author's name which if it is something like Green or Miller also shows passages where the name occures as a word in various texts.

In list by Author can I jump to the page of listing by letter if say I can't remember the spelling or must I page to it in the say 35 page list of books?

I love the Kindle, the only thing I miss is the scrolling home page that Stanza had on my iPod which let you jump to a letter in the author or title listings.

Thank you.

Hi - type in a letter and your search box will say click to go to "letter" authors where "letter" equals whatever letter you want. I think it only works when you have an author of that specific letter.

A sort of shortcut is you can navigate to a specific page. So say you have 20 pages and you want to get somewhere in the middle you an type in 10 (alt Q and alt P) and just click to go to that page.

Hope that helps you

Thanks. It is not quite the same on the k3, at least, I think it works slightly differently. When I type a letter, it opens the search and suggests "Search my items" which is not limited to an Author-search. But nonetheless, is helpful

That's strange. I'm using the 3G k3. I know it only works when sorting by title or author. It does not work when sorting by collections - just type a letter and don't press anything and it should say in italics across the search bar "click here ..." and you hit the middle of the 5-way controller.

Thing is I had to try it with several letters as I don't have many books stored on the kindle now!

On all Kindles, you can go directly to the first letter of the author's last name by typing it when you are in the Sort By Author list. It will then show the "search my items box", but if you read the text at the left, it says "go directly to - authors." When you click the select button, it will then go to the authors starting with that letter.

Ah, so it depends on how you sort on the home pages. I have by Collections. But a quick change would make author sort available. Thanks.

Ah! Thank you

I had tried search only from Title list not Author list. If I type a letter at home in Author list it it does give the search option to jump to the first page of authors starting with that letter. Thank you.
