Charging is SOOO Flakey on these!

Why is the charging so flakey? Can't they figure out something simple like charging a battery? The unit has worked great, except for this one thing!

My battery shows 2/3 charge (2 bars on the gauge). I plug it into a running computer to charge it up for a trip, using the USB cable to the desktops usb port. Nothing happens. No red light, nothing. So, I plugged into yet another computer's usb port. Nothing. So i switched cables. Nothing. THEN, when i use a cable I have the connects to the round carging port and to a usb port on that same computer, shazam it charges, red light comes on.

So, I've heard they don't charge from the USB sometimes when really dead. But this has a 2/3 charge. So anyone have any idea why it won't charge from USB (and it has done so in the past)?

I certainly agree that charging is flaky on the PRS600. I've had lots of problems with a full charge disappearing overnight. Just happened again... Had 3 bars when I went to bed last night. Today it's totally empty, just 'Low Battery" message. Why does this happen? I've tried charging with USB and with a dedicated wall plug to the round yellow port. Same kind of thing happens. Very discouraging, since I love my reader otherwise.

Well, don't try Sony support. After the 4th time in a row they had me do a soft reset I gave up. They haven't a clue. Time to throw the Sony away and buy something else.

Thumbs up Save yourself grief

Get on of these cables..
the PSP Synch Charge Cable
Local Gamespot store (US) or ebay for like 2.00

When I had my PRS600 I would just use this cable with either the usb from the laptop or from my ipod usb power adapter..

PLUG it in with the Barrel connector not the usb into the reader device.
