Which One Should I buy?
Heyas,
Like so many others I come in need of advice. First and foremost, Im in Canada. Basically what Im looking for in a reader: Screen is my first major concern, I want something that I can read for hours without eyestrain. TTS, note taking and highlighting arent a huge concern, though having them would be nice they will be used seldomly. Wifi and 3g are not neccessary, though again would be nice to have(i have wifi on my mp3 player, archos 605 which I always have on me... they really need to make a good mp3/ebook so i dont have to carry 2). I dont care about DRM etc because I am in Canada and I will just strip it off anyway. PDF displaying well is something I would like, I have a lot of ebooks ive gotten free from google so reading those finally would be nice. touch screen is fun but not neccessary. My price range is 100-200, though if the device is super fun and has a ton of features that work super well Id go up to 300. Ive been looking at the Kindle and the Sonys. My biggest concern with the Kindle is the unsightly keyboard at the bottom. Though there is a large selection of books through Amazon. I havent looked at Sony's store yet so I am not sure of their selection. I am also not all that familiar with the lesser known brands so any input on those would be great! |

The Kindle is the only e-reader with TTS. And while the keyboard might not look pretty, it is great for taking notes.
Sony's selection is not that great but you can buy EPub books from other sources and put them on the SOny. There are a ton of other choices. I would say the two other major brands in play are the Nook and the Kobo. I will let their owners speak for those devices. I will say that I would not buy a device without 3G or WiFi. It might not be something that you think you will use but once you start using it you will love it. It is great being able to download a book while sitting at the airport or away from a computer. The Kindle does a great job with taking notes, highlighting, and the dictionary. |

Good to have your new company, Starr. Have you taken a look at the Kobo (it seems particularly Canada-friendly)? It would also seem to do pretty well everything you want a reader to do. Good luck and best wishes. Neil

All the incoming Pocketbook readers have TTS, for example.

Thanks guys, Im not actually interested in TTS, it's one of those features that I dont care that much about.
The kobo looks kinda meh compared to a kindle and sony, Im heavily leaning toward the sony 650 at this point, but im gonna keep scouring the forums for info! |
