Unhappy Sony Ereader Hangover!
Hi all

I found this site whilst searching the internet in vain for reasonably priced ebooks for my sony e-reader! and am hoping I will learn some tips which will mean its not the most disastrous holiday purchase ever....

I was on holiday in Florida and listened to a few of the locals explain how the EReader was fabulous and you can download whole series of books by your favourite authors at a very reasonable price of approx $20 for a set. So I decided that as reading is my escape that I would treat myself to the reader, thinking I would be able to down load books by all my favourite authors meaning I wouldn't have to worry about downloading a few duplicates of books I have read previously.

I have struggled to find ebooks by any of my favourite authors that can match the cost of paperbacks and have not found any site which lets you download by author...PLEASE

I'm afraid the people you were talking to (did you get any sites to go to by the way?) were referring to illegal collections I've seen offered from time to time.

try looking in our Wiki, for instance, here, for stores offering books. Also, there are many places you can get free copyright free books, starting HERe.

Jax2girl I'm afraid you're going to have a hard time finding ebooks by current, mainstream authors at paperback prices. Most ebooks are somewhere between paperback and hardback prices. Since you have a Sony, I recommend keeping an eye on the "bargain bin" area of Sony's store. Sometimes you can also score an ebook bundle--say an entire trilogy--for around the cost of two of the books in the series.

You can find great public domain books, such as Sherlock Holmes, right here at Mobile Read. Just click the "E-books" link in the header.

I'm sure someone will follow with a laundry list of sites you can buy from, but those two will get you started.

Hello and welcome. I see you've gotten good advice here. I got my first Kindle 10 days ago. I've downloaded about 5 books. I wanted another book but wouldn't pay the $9.99 for an ebook. I'm still between reading on my Kindle and reading paper. I suspect I will soon not balk at spending $9.99 on an ebook.

welcome give it some time for the ebook prices to stabilize. As ebook popularity increases, I'm sure there will be more user-friendly indexing of titles.

Hi JAX! Welcome to the MobileRead forums. One great source for e-books is your local library. You can often get so many new titles as soon they come out in paper. No cost at all for those! Look through the MobileRead download library for thousands of free books already formatted for your Sony. There really are hundreds of thousands of free books available through Project Gutenberg, Project Gutenberg-Canada, Project Gutenberg-Australia, and many, many other free e-book sites. Do a web search for 'free e-books' and you'll turn up dozens of locations for them.

I'm afraid that perhaps the folks who you were listening to may have been talking about pirated e-books. These can be downloaded from many, many sites all over the Internet. All the newest releases can be found as well as older series and collections. However, you must realize that the authors receive no money at all when people download these books.

I hope you enjoy your Sony as much as I enjoy mine. It really has made a difference!

Greetings and welcome to MR! I tend to buy a lot of indie authors (I've found some great reads at reasonable prices). Someday, hopefully soon, the publishers will accept the ebook revolution and offer books at reasonable prices :-)
