This is a 1904 biography of Israel Putnam who fought in the French and Indian War and the American Revolution (under General Washington). It's very easy to read history IMO. Author died in 1913 thus this book is in the PD for the US and Canada.

The book is based on the Project Gutenberg file to which I made the following enhancements/additions:
