[GoodEReader Rumors] Boyue out of business soon?

Someone on an german e-reader-forum posted the blog entry from goodereader about Boyue going out of business today early in the morning. Now the blog entry is deleted but it is still available through google cache:

What do you think? Truth or typical Goodereader BS?

The guy has a lot of contact and inside knowledge, so...I'm inclined to believe it. IF it is true, it's bad news. Likebook stuff was getting better and better, and I was thinking of jumping to it from Onyx at some point. Likebook had done some smart things with their products, like non-note taking versions, SD-card and full reverse-mode that Onyx lack. And they were cheaper. Bummer if they've gone. Presumably someone will continue the products, but will they have the same vision? Anyway, hopefully it's not true.

Yesterday there were no Likebook products to be found on Aliepress.
Today it is back - so it looks very much like a rumor

GoodEReader is rife with rumors - especially on the proclamations they make on Mother's Day. But when a Truth hits their old noggin, it's taken down. (They should rename their site GoodERumor.)

Seriously:

It actually strikes me as having the ring of Truth...and I also have a feeling in my gut, like when I sense a spammer on Mobileread trying to promote a writing service.

There is an update to this story.

GoodEreader just announced the "Meebook P78 Pro", apparently a new ebook Reader from "Boyue" that is supposed to launch in a couple of weeks. (So it seems the company is not going out of business afterall...):

In this article GoodEreader makes more confusing and contradicting statements concerning "Boyue".

First they claim that "Boyue" is rabranding their company.
Then in the very next sentence they claim that "Boyue" formed a new company. Whichever it is, they don't tell us the name of that new brand/company.

Then they also claim, that "Boyue" is dropping the "Likebook" brand and will use the label "Meebook" for their ereaders from now on.

The saga continues... Yesterday GoodEreader doubles down and announces yet again, that Boyue is probably dead:

This article goes into more detail and sounds more believable then the others. But then again, it is now their third version of this story, so who knows...

In short, they now claim:

Boyue still exists, but because of the pandemic, ricing prices for e-Ink displays, a restructure of their business and deals that fell through, they had to cease operation.
They closed down their facilities and let go most of their staff. Ongoing business is handled by another company called Ruixin.
Some of the former Boyue staff founded a new company called Haoqingtech. They want to continue making e-readers and they are the ones who are launching this "Meebook P78 Pro" device (not Boyue). They want to use basically the same design / software and are even trying to buy the "Likebook" brand from Boyue.

There is still no statement from Boyue or anyone else other then GoodEreader, about what exactly is going on with the company.

But at least there are now a few hints that confirm something might be going on.

Boyues' website appears to be broken. (Images on the website won't load anymore.)

Boyues' social media accounts are getting quiet. They used to post very frequently, every 2 days on average (in some month even daily) on Twitter and Facebook, until the end of last year (2021). In Jannuary the frequency dropped down to only 2 posts for the entire month.

If any of these rumors are true, it would be sad for all of us. Less competition in the E-Ink market, for one.

Boyue's Facebook page remains, whatever that may mean. On the other hand, disparate sites like the eReader Store and Banggood no longer carry Boyue devices.
