Calibre not detecting PRS-505
Hi everyone
Since upgrading to 0.6.1 my Sony is no longer detected. I upgraded to 0.6.2 but still the same. The O/S detects ok. Output from calibre-debug -d first time round detected the device but said I needed to install pmount. Which I did but made no difference. I ran debug again and this time I got Device Connected: <calibre.devices.prs505.driver.PRS505 object at 0xa0df34c> Trying to open device... Error: device /dev/sdd is not removable Error: device /dev/sdd is not removable Traceback (most recent call last): File "/tmp/init.py", line 45, in <module> File "/home/kovid/work/calibre/src/calibre/debug.py", line 160, in main File "/home/kovid/work/calibre/src/calibre/debug.py", line 123, in debug_device_driver File "/home/kovid/work/calibre/src/calibre/devices/prs505/driver.py", line 50, in open File "/home/kovid/work/calibre/src/calibre/devices/usbms/device.py", line 528, in open File "/home/kovid/work/calibre/src/calibre/devices/usbms/device.py", line 506, in open_linux calibre.devices.errors.DeviceError: Unable to mount main memory (Error code: 4) Running on Linux Mint 6 'Felicia' KDE 4.2.2. Installed Calibre using the binary. Any help appreciated Mark |

Looks like pmount on your system isn't working.
If you do pmount /dev/sdd in a terminal what happens (change sdd to whatever device corresponds to your sony reader main memory |

Hi kovidgoyal,
I'm having the same issue on my Mac. I had 0.6.1 and it recognized the 505 the first time but none of the following times, so I upgraded and nothing changed. I'm not use to terminal in Mac, the commands aren't the same are they? I only have experience with terminal in Ubuntu. I'm not really sure what to do here. I appreciate you helping when we have problems btw! |

The 505 should be mentioned in the list go to preferences->plugins->device drivers and make sure the plugin for the 505 is enabled

@BKR: As far as I can tell the Ubuntu Hardy kernel is too old. I'm afraid you have to either upgrade the kernel by hand or use save to disk in calibre

Hi Kovidgoyal
Tried sudo pmount /dev/sdd but comes back with Error: device /dev/sdd is not removable Device is mounted normally as /dev/sdd Tried manually unmounting and pmount again , but same error. If the O/S is mounting ok on it's own, where does pmount come in? Any chance of going back to 0.5 ? Mark |

If the device is mounted already, calibre will not try to mount it. calibre uses /proc/mounts to check if the device is mounted. Are you sure /dev/sdd is the correct device node for the reader?

Some progress, which might be relevant to some of the other 'can't detect' posts that are starting to pop up.
When the device is plugged in the O/S detects and mounts ok. On my system this is /dev/sdd for main memory and /dev/sdf for the SD card. Starting up Calibre results in no device detected at all. Running calibre-debug -d results in a device detect but unable to mount main memory - Error: device /dev/sdd is not removable. If I now browse the device (Konquerer/Dolphin) , calibre-debug now detects correctly and loading up the gui all is well. So seems to be an issue with auto mounting not quite mounting enough for Calibre's liking. Can anyone else duplicate my findings ? Mark |

@markaw: The error device not removable is probably due to HAL on your system misidentifying the reader as non-removable storage. Though I can't be sure since I find HAL to be so bad that I've completely disabled it on my systems.
