Hi everyone, I have a question. I hope somebody can help me.
Few time ago, I upgraded my Booken Cybook's firmware to read Epub and Acrobat encrypted ebooks. Since then, I can't read the mobi format ebooks on my device. This is very sad because I have lot of mobi files. I have to buy another reader or I can manage both formats on the same device? Thanks, ![]() rosella |

Convert your mobi files.
No reader wil reader mobi DRM and ePub DRM at the same time. Though the pocketbooks can read ePub DRM and mobi no DRM. |

The easiest thing to do is to convert your Mobi books to ePub format. A Google search should provide enlightenment of what needs to be done.

Another option is convert your ePubs to Mobi.
That is what I have done. Up till now ePub is a very unstable format. That is, the format is ok but the implementations ar flaky. You can see it in a program like Calibre. There you can create ePub output for different readers. That should not be necccessary. On other fora there are recommendations to rebuild a book for your reader if it looks bad. Nice if you only have one type of reader, bad if you have more than one. They look different on different readers. My wife has a Bebook and I have a Cybook. More often than not books look completely different on both readers. Good on one and bad on the other. Or bad on both and good on my laptop. Or any possible permutation. After going (back) to Mobi all problems were gone Last edited by Ortep; 06-08-2010 at 05:30 AM. |

If you install firmware 2.0 you can't read mobi files at all, regardless of DRM, but if you keep 1.5 firmware (or older) you can't read ePub files. If you are not able to convert DRM files and you want read both, you don't have any solutions except changing firmware at any one time.

I totally agree with bwaldron (and Ortep!).
I maintain my library in both Mobi and ePub formats (after deDRM) , but I use Mobi on the Gen3 and the Opus because it has the dictionary lookup functionality. |

Just a warn, I'm not sure that is really good for the internal memory to reflash the firmware each time you read another book in a different format (I mean, if you do it everyday)

Just buy two devices.
![]() I also prefer converting non-DRM ePub to PRC. The conversion is done smoothly by calibre, and usually you get a nicely formatted PRC/MOBI (depends on the ePub formatting). |
