New tool to embed notes, highlights, and bookmarks directly in PDF
People have been wanting to be able to export kindle annotated PDF files for years. New mobileread member mikekpl has written a tool to embed the information stored in the .sdr directory for the on kindle PDF into the PDF itself. He announced the tool in the kindle formats forum,
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...6&postcount=43 But since it looks like it is a ready to use tool, it deserves visibility in the main kindle forum. Note that this can be used for PDFs that were annotated on any kindle with PDF support. This excludes annotations made with a pen on the kindle Scribe. Those files are not PDF. Both CLI and GUI versions are provided and the tool is written in python. The above post has a link to the github repository, which has an extensive README. Be warned that there is a possibility that kindles will soon start encrypting the contents of books' .sdr directories https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...3&postcount=15 so it might be a good idea to back up .sdr contents and carefully consider firmware updates. Note also that part of this tool's functionality depends on the work of jhowell (KRDS). Last edited by j.p.s; 10-08-2025 at 03:10 PM. |
