Just started with 1500 paper and 3000 digital books

Hello, I live in the Netherlands and have translated this text with Google Translate.
I am very interested in all kinds of subjects, history, politics and especially religion and have about 1500 books, brochures, newspapers in paper and 3000 books digitally. The digital books are mainly downloaded from all kinds of university libraries in my country and date from 1500 and all legal.

I've only just started; there are about 400 books in there now, many of which are still missing metadata.

Because I can no longer work due to congenital defects that increasingly limit me, I have found a new hobby in books.
I scan all the paper formats. Then I add a book without format after which the cover is added and the library becomes more and more extensive. Now I also get a better overview of everything I have.

I will also ask a question because I can not get the book id number consecutively in Calibre if a book has been removed. I do that in the forum.

Thank you for wanting to read my story.

Welcome to MobileRead.

Book ids are internal to calibre and are not guaranteed to be anything. Do not waste your time worrying about them being consecutive or not.

If you want to number each book in a way that you control, add a custom column to your calibre database.

Thanks for your answer about the book-id's. This makes it much easier for me. Creating a custom column is the solution.

I do not scan entire books In principle, only the covers are scanned.

In very rare cases, the table of contents, or another page that is important to clarify the metadata with an image. I think this is important to indicate before confusion arises that people think that I scan entire books.
