iLiad Development VMWare image

 Filename: iliad-dev.tar.bz2 Filesize: 756MB MD5: 5ee0c35a5000f90aad0acc66c6ee70d8
On Windows, you'll need a program like WinRar (shareware) or 7-zip (open source freeware) to extract it. This file is a trimmed down version of the VMware virtual image that I am using for development. It has *many* libraries already compiled and installed. It also has vncserver setup and an iLiad scratchbox area for testing apps. Login Information: Username: root Password: password Username: developer Password: password VNC Server password: password How to use: Download VMWare Player or Server: http://www.vmware.com/download/player/ Install player, and open virtual machine. It should start and run without problems. I reccmend you connect to the machine through putty on windows, since it is a better interface for console development. To change between development and testing environments, type sb-menu at the prompt, and then choose select. You will want to select iliad-dev for compiling applications, and iliad-irex for testing. You can find instructions for compiling here: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...8&postcount=35 or https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/Ilia...cial_toolchain Last edited by Alexander Turcic; 05-01-2010 at 04:41 AM. Great! I will snap it as soon as it's on Megashare, then we can also host it @ MobileRead. Adam, what Linux distribution did you pick? |

I used debian. I installed it with very minimal options. This let me keep the file size down, and lets users run with with minimal overhead. You can apt-get gnome or whatever window manager you want if you like, but I prefer it without. I've set this up by following Antartica's instructions in the wiki.

You probably need a program like dropbear on the iLiad, to be able to run stuff remotely and to make screenshots, right? And could you publish your version of AbiWord here as well? Please.

My browser just crashed with 10% remaining... I'm uploading it again. On the plus side, this time I used bzip compression, and it reduced the file size by almost 100MB. I consider dropbear almost a necessity when testing programs on the iLiad. You will need it for making screenshots, and fro running programs without using the contentlister. To be honest, I don't know what will happen when you try to run abiword on the iLiad in it's current state. It probably just won't run. With a program that big and complicated, it think it'd be best to wait until I do some testing and debugging before releasing any version. Last edited by Adam B.; 03-30-2007 at 11:58 AM. |

Adam, if you want, I could host the file on my dreamhost account. PM me if you're interested.

I put up a link to the megashare file. I didn't realize they had download limits....I'll try rapidshare as well. I can setup a torrent when I get home. Anyone is free to mirror/host this wherever they'd like. Edit: Rapidshare has a 100mb upload limit... Edit Again: files-upload.com has unlimited downloads, and a 1gb file size limit. I'm uploading to there now. Last edited by Adam B.; 03-30-2007 at 02:13 PM. |

Adam perhaps it's easier if you ftp it to projects.mr.com... from there we could more easily distribute it to mirrors. splat: I am not a BT expert, but someone here mentioned earlier that for a successful torrent you need a critical mass of file sharers. I am not sure how many people will actually be interested in the development image and share it. |

And correct, bittorrent is only a good solution if there are quite a few people downloading the file. With the handful of people who will want this, I doubt it will be very effective.
