Gray Squares of Death

Well - today I got the gray squares of death on my PRS-505.

Have we found any work arounds yet for when the lines and squares show up on the screen

Can you post a picture, please? Really need that to be able to diagnose the problem.

Well. Here they are. First pictures taken with my new digicam...wish they were of something better.

From research on the website, it looks like this is from either the battery dying or the spontaneous screen shattering that we've seen on different forum posts. What I don't get is how it happened so quick.

One minute I was reading just fine, then I put the book down and turned it off with the standby switch. Came back...and this.

I'd shut it off and let it charge for a while. Then just leave it alone for a day or two and see if it works again.

If that doesn't work, well, are you still within the year warranty?

Given the weird rounded edges at the bottom I would say something pressed against the screen there causing internal breakage, but then I'm not a firm believer in these spontaneous breakdowns.

Unfortunately it looks like a broken screen substrate to me.
