Forma crashed after decoupling from Calibre
Well, this is the first time this ever happened to me. I connected it to the desktop, had Calibre upload a few books, then decoupled the device from the software. When I looked at the device a bit later, I saw the screen lit up as though it was rebooting, which it never does. But now on startup I get the initialization screen.
So of course most of the imported books on there are now lost. (For some unaccountable reason, *some* are still on there. But all the data, like what collection they were in, is lost.) So now I have more than 2000 books in Calibre on my desktop, and I'd like to import almost all of them, not to have to figure out every time I look op a book if it's on there and go back to the computer first if it's not. But I guess that's hardly possible? I also have an Elipsa (i.e. much newer, faster processor), and when I tried to import huge numbers of books to that device I remember it crashed all the time. I had to do it in small batches. Anybody have better experiences with this. What a disheartening experience. |

Yes I had the same problem with my Sage. In the thread about the 586 firmware
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=354942 much has been said about this nasty problem with some good advice. What I do is a reboot of my Sage before I connect to my desktop. My ereader is therefore not in a book when I connect. I then connect with calibre and send the ebook(s) over. I eject from calibre and so far that is fine, my Sage imports the ebook(s). Other people first close calibre and then disconnect from windows. Maybe this will help you also. |

Thanks. It's often hard to find relevant information on this forum unless you follow all discussions al the time, which I haven't the time for. Although now of course, I've been spending an entire day trying to get 2000+ books back on the device, only for it to do the same thing after I've done so. This kind of flakiness really makes the device pretty unusable. If I weren't subscribed to Kobo Plus I'd consider looking out for another device (Pocket or Tolino, I guess). And maybe I will and just ditch Kobo Plus if it goes on like this.

Would it make a difference here whether one used the default Calibre Kobo device driver, or the one that comes with the Kobo Utilities plugin?
(I know I can just try it out, but I'd like to make an *educated* guess before I try to spend hours loading 2000 books again only to see it go wrong after they've been loaded. :-) |

There is no KoboTouch device driver that comes with the KoboUtilities plugin. The KoboTouch driver is part of the default calibre install, the KoboTouchExtended driver is an optional install. The KTE driver has the optional ability to generate kepub files from the ePub files stored in calibre on the fly so they are read with the WebKit renderer.

Before you connect your Kobo to your calibre library, go to the home screen.
It's what I do and it works. |
