Is there better pdf reader software for the D00801?
I would be interested in jailbreaking my kindle D00801, if I could install a pdf reader that gives me control over the margins.
Here is what it looks like now: ![]() I got this device as a dedicated pdf reader. The screen is A5 sized, so the text is a bit small, but if I could crop out the margin, it would be perfect. Sadly, you can't do that on the stock software. I'd like someone with experience in custom kindle software to recommend some software I can install, that would let me manually crop into the margins when I load a pdf; if such a thing exists. Here is a mock up: ![]() Thanks. |

Newer e-ink readers with much more powerful CPUs and much more RAM are clunky and awkward with what you are looking for.
The only real option is to preprocess the PDF file with something like k2pdfopt https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=144711 |

I would still be interested to know if there is any different software available for the D00801; so far I haven't found any. |

It's too slow a CPU and too low resolution. A 7" Kobo Libra is dramatically faster and can show larger PDFs.
If you have the money the Likebook Mars is 7.8" and dramatically better than the Libra due to native margin crop and able to fix bad PDF scans (grey background to white, improve text, remove watermarks etc. I bought the DXG in an Amazon Sale and I did jailbreak it simply to have sleep screens of current book. Worst value gadget purchase ever. I now use a KK3 to test the Mobi/KF7 version of books we produce. I think even replacing the battery recently was a waste of money. |

https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/Kindle_Serial_Numbers koreader will run on on a DX(G), but, as has been pointed out, it will be slow on a DX(G). https://github.com/koreader/koreader...Kindle-devices There is also pdfviewer, which is the predecessor to koreader |
