My Dad's a teacher and his school decided to provide PDAs to every kid. The experiment worked well - almost. They made the mistake of getting 1/2 Palm and 1/2 WinCE (they didn't know which PDA type to use). After the year was up, the found out (like everyone knows) that WinCE devices stink and are more expensive to maintain. So they were going to sell the WinCE devices and buy Palms for the students.
