title sort

my library is no longer sorted by title but by file size, calibre was working fine a week ago, then when I went to add more books a few days ago my books weren't sorting by title when I added them to my device. After some fiddling I finally understood that the library is now sorting my books by file size and I have no idea how this happened nor how to fix this. Hopefully someone can tell me what I may have inadvertently done to bugger up my library. Thanks in Advance.

Click on the column header you want to sort by.

There is an arrow head on the sorted column. If it points in the wrong order (eg L > H ), click again

Calibre biases sorts, by the previous sort.
If you want Titles by Author (same Titlename with Authors in order)
First sort The Authors, Then sort by Title

(you can't do conflicting nested sorts and expect them to work )

BTW  there ia a Preferences:Tweaks for a starting up sort
ID: sort_columns_at_startup

Provide a set of columns to be sorted on when calibre starts. The argument is None if saved sort history is to be used otherwise it is a list of column,order pairs. Column is the lookup/search name, found using the tooltip for the column Order is 0 for ascending, 1 for descending. For example, set it to [('authors',0),('title',0)] to sort by title within authors.

@puggles34 - another way to take control of book list sorting is via the optional View Manager plugin ==>> Index of plugins

I wish there was a button (probably in Layout) to toggle column sorting on and off, its handy when you want it, but it's a tad too easy to missclick a header.

Right clicking the list offers everything except {ID} (the natural order of the DB)

My issue with left click column sorting is that I'm prone to doing it inadvertently. Arbitrary single column sorts can also be done via the Sort By tool, which is in the default book list context menu.

Relational databases don't have a 'natural order' - row numbers are an artifice to enable a Codd db to do what a Bachmann db does naturally

And, according to Google, to do a biased sort you probably need to borrow Godric Gryffindor's hat

In Calibre, the nataural/native order is when they were added and a ID assigned. {Date} also groups mine as I leave it alone

Thanks everyone, it was as simple as clicking on title button to reorder my library sort, I never even thought to do that.
