PDF butchered on kindle PW2
Dear all,
Let me start by apologizing if I'm posting this in the wrong forum; it seems relevant to me here though ![]() I've got a PW2 which is supposed to have good PDF support, correct? Well, after transfering a PDF in my calibre library to the USB-connected Kindle, I've noticed the text is pretty butchered. Here's an example close up: On PC: ![]() On Kindle: ![]() (notice the 2 missing s's in the middle) Is this a known problem? And does it have a known solution? ![]() Let me add that the problem is not caused by some sort of accidental conversion; if I open the pdf file that is on the kindle on the PC (i.e. browse to /documents via usb and find the file), it looks fine. Thanks guys! Last edited by ElRudi; 01-29-2015 at 08:55 AM. |

No one ever said that a Paperwhite had good PDF support. That being said, I've never heard a complaint exactly like yours before.

The "i" in equivalent is missing as well. That's just weird. I don't read many PDFs on any ereader, but I've never seen anything like that before.

If you are going to be reading PDF on an E-ink Kindle, I strongly recommend jailbreaking and installing KOReader.
And hopefully, as a bonus this problem will go away. |

While it's highly unlikely that transferring the PDF file with Calibre caused problems, you could also try to directly copy the pdf file to your PW2 using Windows Explorer.
Also check out K2pdfopt (freeware), which will reformat regular PDFs for Kindle screens. |

I once sent a PDF to Amazon to read on my kindle. I started to notice something was off in the story so I checked back to the PDF on my PC and words and even whole sentences were missing!
I never bothered again. I now read PDFs on my ipad. |

@Doitsu - it wasn't a problem in the transfer; the file on the kindle looked just fine when opened (through usb) from the PC.
@eschwartz - I don't want to go offtopic, but you recon KOReader is better? @Josieb1 - wow, really? It's that kind of silent but deadly failure i'm always concerned about when converting between all these formats -- I never thought it'd even be an issue without a conversion! Lots of people seem happy with it. Personally, I have never bothered because I don't read PDFs.

I've also seen this on mine, yeah, but only with special characters specific to the Romanian language (ș, ț, ă, etc). The PW's software must be interpreting them wrong or something, because they look fine on any other device or Windows/Linux software. I hate to break it to you, but e-Ink readers SUCK DONKEY BALLS for PDF files. They always have.
