Arthur Upfield in life plus 50 public domain

Arthur W Upfield died in 1964, so all of his books (except the last, The Lake Frome Monster, which was finished after his death by another writer) are in Life+50 public domain. He created detective Inspector Napoleon Bonaparte, half indigenous Australian, half European, who solved numerous outback, and sometimes urban, mysteries from 1929 to 1964. He also wrote a small number of non-Bony novels early in his career. |

The Bony titles were all released as ebooks late last year. Definitely available as epub (Kobo, Google etc). Don't know if Kindle format exists.

Maybe Project Gutenberg Canada will have the books later? I checked and couldn't find them.

Apologies if I mislead anyone: the epub titles released last year were a commercial release from ETT Imprint, Sydney.

Now is your chance to contribute to Gutenberg, in life plus fifty countries. Don't wait, join Gutenberg and prepare a book for freedom. You will need a paper copy with the copyright details, send the information to Gutenberg first for them to clear the copyright, then get scanning and ocring.

There's a Gutenberg Australia. Due to oddities in the history of Australian copyright law, some authors still copyright in life + 70 countries are in the public domain in Australia. When Australia changed from Life + 50 to Life + 70, all books already in the public domain at the time of the change remained there, so, eg, E Phillips Oppenheim is public domain here, and copyright in USA and UK etc. Any author who died before the end of 1955 is in the public domain here. |
