Today's Important Update
When I connected my Touch to my Kobo desktop this morning, I got a message that Kobo has just released an "important update". Does anyone know what was fixed (or damaged - LOL) in this updated?

What version were you running beforehand, and what is it showing now?

I've just synced my Touch via Kobo Desktop, no updates (running 3.8.0).

You can click the 'Wrench' icon on the top-right, and then 'About', to see what version you have installed. Should be 3.10.0.

I hope 3.9.0 fixes my Touch from freezing while I'm reading. It's getting very frustrating!!! But most likely, as there doesn't seem to be a lot of people complaining about freezing while reading, it will only be a fix for the "annotation" problem.

Kobo doesn't believe in change logs or what's new files so your guess is as good as mine as to what has changed. If this popped up on the Kobo Desktop application, it would be an update to that application. Generally, a desktop application update is a good indication that Kobo has a firmware update coming soon. Looking at the Kobolabs Github page, it appears that changes to the H2O code were committed a couple of days ago however this is only the non-proprietary stuff.

No, there will be no firmware 3.9.0. Kobo are matching the desktop version, so the next firmware release is 3.11.0.

And before anyone asks, no, you do not have to make sure the desktop and device versions match. I believe a lot of code is shared between the two. This is purely about having the same version number on different products using the same version of the code base. Of course, the version checking each of these do will tend to make them to be the same.

I believe davidfor gave a comprehensive list of changes a week ago .

But seriously, things change in different builds so we're reluctant to share what's in the beta at least until we get a final release version (which might be the same time it's going live). Same reason we don't speculate when a new firmware may come out, as things change and Kobo may change schedules unexpectedly if they come across a problem.
