Hello,
I have a kindle paperwhite and my issue is about borrowing books. I had a long conversation with a suppt rep from Amazon about a book I had borrowed that was only showing up on my kindle and not on any of my kindle reader programs. I have the program on my work computer, my home laptop nor my iPad. According to what the rep told me the publishing companies control the manner of distribution/access for purposes of lending. Publishing companies can authorize either lending access to device only or to all devices with authorized accounts. I am a computer help desk tech by trade and a very determined individual to boot. I have tried connecting my Kindle with the USB to my computer and can see (and have copied over) the content files but they aren't in any format I can import to my Kindle's software library nor can I convert them to .pdf. Does anyone have a hack or crack to help me with this? Thank you......... ![]() |

The .azw(3) files are the books, but they are encrypted with DRM. The DRM is per-device/app.
I believe once a book is borrowed, you can download it through any app/device that is signed into your Amazon account (although there is usually a 6-devices/apps-per-book-at-a-time limit). In order to borrow the book, you will, depending on the publisher, need a device (the apps will NOT work). And all books checked out through Prime Lending Library are like this. But afterwards, it should be available from all apps as well. Edit: I forgot to mention ![]() Last edited by eschwartz; 05-29-2014 at 11:40 AM. |

I don't know that. I'm only an "associate" prime member (or some similar word, i.e., I get free shipping) so I can't borrow Prime books anyhow. I guess they want to make sure you buy a Kindle device. Should I ever become the "prime" Prime Member this is good to know.
