digital edition: thumbnails

I've been trying to understand why the available space on my aura 6" is lower than on the hd. The 6" is my emergency (last used when I had to reset the hd, and I needed days to upload all my books), so I keep them synced as well as possible.
I've discovered a "digital editions" folder in the 6" absent from the hd, 28.3 M0 of which 27.1 for thumbnails. Can I eliminate it?
Also my images are 12 Mo, even after cleaning images with kobo utilities.

I'd be thankful if someone could direct me to the appropriate link for explanations if it exists.

The images in Digital Editions/Thumbnails seem to be created (by ADE) when you connect the device to ADE. I deleted the whole Thumbnails directory, and have had no problems.

The files in Digital Editions/Annotations and Digital Editions/Manifest are created by the device when you first open a book, and when you make annotations in the book, and remain there even after you delete the book. You can delete them too if you want. (The annotations are stored in the device's database too, but those ones are deleted when you delete the book.)
