PcWorld.com's Top 10 PDA's
PCWorld have published their top ten PDA's. Interestingly, half are Palm OS, and half are Windows Mobile/PocketPC... But where do they sit on the chart?
It's a sign of the times, I think... Craig. |

Abbreviated listing
Their ranking and even just the models they chose, in my opinion sucked.
For example, the PalmOne Tungsten T3 wasn't even ON the list, nor were any of the 2100 or 2200 series IPaqs from HP. for Palm OS devices, they had the following: 5th spot, Sony Clie PEG-TH55. 7th spot, PalmOne Zire 72 (glad this one made the list, for it's features and price tag it's a sweet device. But 7th?!). 8th spot: PalmOne Tungsten E, and 9th Spot: PalmOne Tungsten C. Last place was the PalmOne Zire 31. Definitely one of those things where you have to beware the source of information. I can EASILY understand the IPAQ (most models) making the top 10 list of any combined OS type list. They are, arguably, one of THE best PPC handhelds out there. They have been leading the innovation on the MS PPC platform for years. Unfortunately, I don't know a whole lot about ASUS or Toshiba to be able to comment on them, so I'll have to recuse myself on that point. ![]() But I am a bit disappointed in their discussion of the Palm OS based handhelds. I feel that they are slanted towards the MS PPC platform and don't really know much beyond pricing for the Palm OS. But then, that is my own opinion after reading the article on PCWorld. CBarnett above has a link to that article if you 're interested in reading it. I myself read it through Yahoo News which linked over to PC World. Go figure. Hehehe ![]() |

The Toshibas are popular as they are the first PPC's to have a true VGA display (640x480) and the OS patch to use it properly. The ASUS are a well featured, robust series that are giving HP a run for their money too. I must admit I've been neglecting the development on the Palm front since I got my ipaq, but you have a point; these sort of ranked lists are always subjective.

Does anyone actually read PCWorld? I never liked that magazine. Too biased and no original information - you can find everything they talk about elsewhere on the Web.

Usually, what PCWorld has to say, I ignore. Their recent rankings only serve to prove my point (and yours) that they aren't worth listening to. ![]() But. Let's stop talking about PC World. It's detracting us from better things to talk about (Tungsten 4 and apparently the IPaq's new form factor). ![]() |
