AC adapter PRSA-AC1 and PRSA-AC1A

Hello All

I have 2 PRS-650s and have been using the Sony AC adapter PRSA-AC1 (picture attached) for charging them.

I am planning on purchasing the PRS-T1 . Its user-manual mentions the Sony charger PRSA-AC1A can be used with it.

My question is: can I safely use my PRSA-AC1(picture attached) with the PRS-T1 ? has anyone here tried this ?

So, what is the technical difference between PRSA-AC1 and PRSA-AC1A (other than confuse us with diff model nos, that is) ?

Thanks

Shaleen

I use my older Sony charger (bought for 350) with the T!. Not sure of the number though.

Speakingtohe: Could you please report back the o/p spec printed on your charger ?

The spec for the new prsa-ac10 charger, recommended for prs-t1 (& prs 650, & prs 350 too), says: o/p 5VDC, 1000 mA. I've uploaded a picture of this charger herewith.

So, I'm little concerned about using the prsa-ac1 (o/p 5VDC, 1500mA) with the prs-t1 reader.

Mine is the AC1 1500 ma. I just looked. I have used it several times with my PRS-T1, it came with the micro USB cable which fits the 350-650-T1, with no problems. But if you are unsure, follow your instincts.

Helen

Strangely enough my charger looks like 2nd picture, but is marked AC1, or maybe I am confused as to which picture is which.

I've been using the charger AC1 since October with no issues.

Thanks for the prompt Helen. Mine is also AC1 (looks like 1st pic) and o/p spec is 5VDC, 1500mA. I bought it with my PRS 650s.

From the pics on various webpages, I've concluded that there are two AC1 adapters, depending on the country of sale.
1. which has the plug-in cable on the power-i/p side (like mine) and
2. which has the power-pins directly on the adapter-body (like yours). --even the new prsa-ac10 has power-pins directly on the adaptor-body. So it will look like yours.
And I'm guessing, but I think mine is called PRSA-AC1 and yours is called PRSA-AC1A. Also, they have same tech specs (since yours and mine say: 5VDC, 1500mA)

The PRS-T1 wifi reader's manual says that power adapter PRSA-AC1A can be used.

My only curiosity right now is : why has Sony's new prsa-ac10 power-adapter for the wifi reader reduced the spec to 5VDC, 1000mA ? won't that mean it'll take longer to charge the reader than our prsa-ac1 adaptors do ?

And Bookworm Girl: Thanks for your reply too.

Mine is definitely AC1 on the plug in part. And says 1500 ma.

No idea why they changed, perhaps to discourage the common usage of other USB adapters, maybe the specs are less common.

Could be problems with 1500 ma., but I think we would have read about them by now.

Or maybe the parts were cheaper.

Anyway I will continue to use mine as it was'nt cheap and has caused me no problems. And yes I think it does charge faster.

Perhaps someone will chime in with more info.

Don't worry, this only tells us, that the charger is capable of delivering up to 1500 mA. But it will only deliver as much, as the reader draws from it.
I am using a Nokia phone charger, with more than 1000mA, no problem whatsoever.

Check out the wiki page on chargers.
Could you please add your findings?

I'm using my HTC phone charger right now (output rated at 5V / 1000mA) and it seems to be working just fine. A standard computer USB port will usually only provide up to 500mA which means it will take longer for a full charge.

The nice thing about devices capable of charging via USB cable is that you can (most of the time) use just about any charger with a compatible USB cable or a USB A-port and a data cable (including car chargers). Devices are usually equipped with smart charging circuitry that will only draw as much current as is needed for the battery. I've been swapping chargers this way for multiple devices (mobile phones, GPS devices, external photo storage) for a few years now with no issues.
