no applications can perform this function

Can anybody tell me (very naive) why this is happening when i try to download an app?

Need more detail. How are you trying download?

I suspect you are trying to follow an android market link which the vox can't do unless you take special steps.

I guess i am. I followed the root procedure, not sure what I'm doing though!

You need to root your vox first and then do this, right?

If you are not sure you might not want to root it. Too late now by the sounds of it. You'll have to provide more information.

Out of curiosity, is there a GUI front-end for ADB that we can point novices to in order to make their life simpler? I'm making this suggestion because we don't actually have to root the Vox since Kobo allows us to enable USB debugging, and it would allow us to chop off a huge number of confusing steps for novices. (I don't bother rooting my Vox anymore since adb does the job, but I'm comfortable with the command line.)

I've tried Android Master, but that throws up errors if you don't have .Net 4. I've also tried QtADB, but that requires digging up and installing ADB first (which makes the process more complex than it should be).
