cannot connect kindle to wi-fi

Hi folks,
Please help.
My brand new kindle won't connect to my BT HomeHub wi-fi.
I had a Cybook Opus as a gift for Christmas - loved it - but it completely and utterly froze.
Sent it back, but could not get another for similar price - so settled for kindle from ebay - not amazon - mistake
Price was a consideration as it was a gift - I did not want giver of gift to have to fork out more because the original gift was a flop.
I'm exasperated - cannot connect kindle.
I loved the lovely straightforward opus, and feel like kicking this tinny, unhelpful kindle right back to the seller
Rant over - I'm just soooo frustrated - I am not very computer savvy - but can get by. I'm spent 4 hours this evening trying to find the password for wi-fi - and when I found it - kindle refused to accept it.
Any suggestions please?
Ann

What security protocol do you use on your network?

Why is this an issue, is it blacklisted by Amazon? A significant number of Kindles obtained on ebay are. If it's not blacklisted and therefore registrable to your Amazon account, then I don't believe it will be an issue.

It looks like the BT HomeHub defaults to using WEP instead of WPA. My Kindle Touch and my K4NT are not showing WEP networks, but only WPA (perhaps the local WEP networks are out of range). Perhaps you need to change your router settings to use WPA...

I have a crummy 2Wire modem that AT&T supplied with my DSL connection. I have to reboot the stupid thing every time I want to connect my Kindle Touch (as well as some other devices).

So..... it might just be a matter of rebooting your wifi.

Thanks all of you - you helped. I don't want a complicated life. I just want to be able to download books easily on to an e-reader, your answers showed me that my BT WiFi and Kindle would be anything but uncomplicated, Sooooo - kindle sent packing and new cybook opus arrived today - yay.
It's so easy to use and aesthetically so much nicer than the kindle - I am now a happy bunny.
Thank you all - you've been a great help.
