New Fonts not available in Kindle
I installed the fonts hack without a hitch. The folder appears as such on my root directory and I can see all the different fonts. but when I unplug my Kindle from the computer, I only have the default 3 fonts available on my Kindle. I notice that the default font looks a bit different but it is still Sans Serif and not very dark. Did I miss something? I would like to choose which font I want.

I did replace the fonts in the file. I can see the fonts that came with the hack, but I really wanted to have the Georgia 2 font that I downloaded. I put it into the file with the others (named Georgia2_Regular.ttf) but I still see only the 3 options on my Kindle. I also tried taking out all of the fonts from the folder Except for the Georgia 2 and still no luck.

"replace the files" probably means that you've got to rename your new font to the exact (!) name of the font you want to replace (and remove that first).

Yes that was it! I now have the Georgia 2 (renamed Serif_Regular) and the font is on my Kindle using the Regular button. But I have 2 other font choices (one says condensed and the other says Sans Serif. There are many other fonts in my fonts folder and I have no idea which ones are the condensed and which is the Sans Serif since I did the hack. I would like to have the original Sans Serif that was on the Kindle before the hack, but don't know where it is nor what it is called. Should I have ONLY the fonts I have chosen in the fonts folder and get rid of the others? Is there a need for so many different fonts in that folder?

@harpangel36: You can't add more choices to the [Aa] menu, that's just how it is. You'll always only be able to change what the 'serif' (regular) and 'sans' fonts look like with the hack.
And yes, the Kindle needs all the stuff that's in the fonts folder. The original serif font is called Caecilia, it should be in there with all the rest. If you'd like to have Caecilia on hand through the [Aa] menu, there's an easy tweak to be done with the Fonts hack: drop a blank file named "nocondensed" (without the quotes, of course) in the linkfonts folder, and restart your Kindle. After that, the 'condensed' option in the [Aa] menu should point to the default Caecilia font (ie. 'regular' on a vanilla Kindle). |
