resetting to factory defaults?

What does happen when you do this for a Kindle 3? Does it just erase whatever is on the unit or do you have to re-register or what? I have got things all mixed up on my Kindle and can't think of any way other than a complete reset to sort it out, but don't know what the reset entails.

I believe that it does just what the name says, resets to factory defaults. So all books are gone, setting options reset, registration gone, etc.

So I would just have to redownload any Kindle content after re-registering it? It wouldn't cause any problems with the unit? I don't want to mess something up in the works. Might just open the Kindle Document folder and delete the books that way. So I don't have that problem, but I do need to do something with it to sort things out.

It is possible that letting the factory reset delete books could mess with your license limit. If you delete via the Kindle, then sync, then reset, they should be properly released.

I was having issues with my K3 battery and did the factory reset on the recommendation of Amazon. Totally removed all books, etc....but no problem putting them back on. All the Amazon books showed up under 'Archives' once you reregister, and can be downloaded, and I just downloaded everything else from Calibre.

cheers

A reset should not de-register a Kindle, and it will not remove any hacks you may have put on it. It will remove all content, and will put any settings options back to their original settings.
