Hi,
Seems this is my second attempt (think I forgot to hit the "submit" button)! Anyways, my name is Pamela and I live in Boston Ma. This is my first time on any internet forum. I signed on for three reasons: one - I had found a book that I wanted to recommend; two; my love of reading and three - my son said it was high time that I joined a forum that I had an interest in.

My favorite book is "The World According to Garp" by John Irving. I have read all of his books. When I'm in the mood to read something less intense I read the books by Maeve Binchy. I love the classics and this summer re-read "The Great Gatsby" (good summertime reading). I listen occasionally to audio books, but I'd much rather curl up in bed and read from a paper back or e-reader (love some suggestions on a good e-reader).

I must admit that I am also a casual game player (yes). I find games and reading great distractions from the stresses of life. On a personal note, I find laughter the key to enduring life and often laugh at myself. I am excited to be part of this forum for information and good conversation; so hello to all!

yikes - as they say - take your pick!

readers galore abound, have a look at "Which One Should I Buy?"

&

"Ereader Matrix" in our Wiki ....

and then browse through and see what we've all got to say about them ... Enjoy the journey ....

Hi and Welcome to Mobileread Pamela. Good to have your company.

If you want some suggestions on e-readers you need to be more specific.
Quote:
(love some suggestions on a good e-reader).
Pretty much cover every reader out there

Do you like it to be small or portable or is it more important with a big screen?
Do you want to be able to lend books from the library?
Do you find it important that the device supports an external memory card?
Do you prefer touch screen or physical buttons?
Is it important that you can buy books directly from the device?
Is the different formats supported by the device important?

As you see there's a lot of decisions to factor in when deciding which e-reader to get. Good luck with the hunting

Hi David,
Thanks for welcoming me and your list of questions is very helpful. Since I do most of my reading in bed (between 12 and 2 am in the morning), I don't want something too small or too heavy, (I don't even like hard back books because of that reason). I see that you have more than one device listed. What do you like the best if you don't mind me asking and why? Thanks - Pamela

I find the Kindle 2 size to be the perfect size for reading regular books. The screen is big enough and it keeps the reader light and it can easily be held during longer periods with just one hand. I only read on my phone when in cramped places and for me the screen is too small to be any good for longer reading.

If you're a night reader you might want to consider that devices with physical buttons will have a click sound when turning pages. This can be annoying for a partner trying to sleep. I've heard users here at MR saying that the click sound from the Kindle 3 is less obtrusive.
For me the click sound on the K2 is hardly noticeable.
