Dr. Who for free

BBC offers 8 Dr.Who novels for free on this website

Who (snicker) doesn't know the cult SF series. Well, BBC, promotes the series with free e-books. There are eight of them online 'til now, in PalmReader(?), Microsoft Reader and Mobi formats.

Have fun!

It doesn't appear that they are all available in an easy download format, though. I only managed to get 4 of them as mobi files.

Five of them are available in multiple formats at www.feedbooks.com. (Do a search for "Doctor Who".)

As for which comes first, trying to put the adventures of a time traveller into chronological order is rather difficult.

Oh nonsense. In the chronological order of the character's memory...

I hope you mean the REAL "season 1" - ie the William Hartnell one - and not this new-fangled thing!

Yes, Grandfather and Susan.. With Barbara and Ian right now... I was very proud when my son said he prefers them to the new ones as well... I grew up with the 4th and 5th Doctors mostly... Though they did occasionally show older episodes.

(Mind you, I don't -hate- the new series, but it isn't the same)

Ahh thanks for the heads up . I like the old and new doctor who series (mind you I prefered Christopher Ecclestone to David Tennant in the new ones).

Good for you!

Are you aware, by the way, that fans have "reconstructed" all the "missing" episodes of Dr Who? Although many of the master tapes were wiped in the 1970s, and the episodes lost, they all exist as soundtracks and still pictures and even 8mm film clips, recorded "off air" by fans.

What a group of very dedicated fans have done is to start with the soundtrack of of each missing episode, and match to it all the existing photographs and other material, adding subtitles, etc, where necessary. The results are amazingly good. They're even using CGI in the latest reconstructions.

All available free of charge from:

I do like the new Dr. Who. I've seen all the episodes BBC has of the original Dr. Who all the way through to the new ones. What I object to is when they started calling these season 1 when they clearly are not season 1 at all.

Thank you, Harry. Yes, I was aware of them. I only wish they made them available for download. I might look around for a local dubber. The Tenth Planet is definitely one I would like to get.

Their recons don't include any of the existing BBC episodes (to avoid copyright problems), so it's a good idea to buy the BBC's "Lost in Time" DVD set. That has all the "isolated" episodes on it, where most of the story has been lost and just one or two episodes survive. What I do when I get a tape (they only supply on video tape!) from them is to record it all to my hard disk DVD recorder, copy any relevent episodes from "Lost in Time", then burn it all to a DVD in the correct episode order.
