Do you count Kindle manual towards books you've read?

Actually yes I do

I mark off all the books I've read using a custom column in Calibre - and that includes manuals! It's still a book - not such exciting reading as perhaps most other books but it still counts!

How much I actually remember of it though is another matter

Ha... I read my Kindle manual last night (trying to find the answer to a question about the counter thingie at the bottom. Which I didn't get the answer I was looking for, btw), but it never occurred to me to count that toward how many books I'd read. Really didn't occur to me to count any of the books I've read, for that matter.

Read the manual? Are you kidding?

When I got the Kindle the first thing I did was close the manual, and then work my way through. When I had some question, for instance how to rename a collection, I did a global search and the manual did help a lot.

So for me the manual is very useful, but as reference material, not as a book that you read from start to finish.

In my defence, hubby never reads gadget manuals so I always read them as I'm terrified he'll cock something up with his fiddling when he doesn't know how something works.

I have to ask why anyone would wish to count the books that they read? It seems as pointless as counting the number of times that you blink, or the number of steps that you take every day. What on earth is the point?

on a serious note - counting books is not a target, it is more of a consequence, since I do keep a list of books that I have read, and that I want to read, for reference and prioritization purposes and to be able to reflect on. Also for improvement of reading habits - "woo, too much sci-fi this year, have to do some novels too." It is the same reason people go on diets and start counting calories, to be able to control and direct their habits to a better choice and balance, rather than gorging on fastfood/fastread there is out there, without thinking.
Also, having slightly busier life definitely rams into time that could be allocated to reading books - so it helps to be able to compare your current reading habits with say the ones of last year -say, since i only did about 30 books last year - I would definitely want to increase this number this year.
So not as meaningless as one might think.

I must admit to being an avid manual reader. Any device I buy I read the manual from cover to cover.
