New iLiad model in Q2 2007?

Karel has just posted a hint that iRex is planning to deliver a new model of the iLiad in Q2 2007, apparently with extended power:

http://forum.irexnet.com/viewtopic.php?p=4615#4615

There's also mention of a new battery for the original iLiad.

Edit: No, I don't think it will ship in Q2 either, I'm just reporting what he said.

The important news here is that iRex has a redesigned website.
And on the new website they have redacted some of the promises about the Iliads.

For example, now they claim that the Iliad lasts 15 hours on onr charge instead of 21 hours they claimed previously. See the thread on iRex forum.

I would not say its a new model. I would say its the same model but with a larger battery. At least that's all we know at the moment.

This indicates an acknowledgement of the fact by them that they are not able to implement power management in the near future (next 6 months at least), unless miracle happens. For me this is sad news. I could not give up hope yet that power management was feasible.

New model? They haven't got the first model to work as promised yet! Where's my bookmark support (as stated in the specs - at least initially, that's a moving target)?

I am not going to dump another +$800.00 on another one that won't work as advertised either!

They should be putting forth their efforts in supporting their current customers - the one's that could help their sales in the future!

Sorry, had to rant!

His words, not mine. It remains to be seen what other "features" might be included, when the unit might ship, or what its price would be.

In addition we will also offer a special battery upgrade option to those with a 2006 iLiad model.
Based on their original advertising, I think they owe their rev 1 customers a free battery upgrade. New features in a new product model are one thing... features that were advertised for a prior product model are something else again.

I don't think a new battery would be a big help. They need to redesign parts of the hardware to make proper powersaving possible.
End of Story.

The clock must run to keep the dynamic memory alive. Would it help to use static memory, that does not need refresh to retain data? Low power, of course.

For keeping the time a built-in radio clock would suffice. Such a clock uses almost no power and can be switched off completely and be at the right time fast when powered on.

If the new model could have the new display used for flexible devices (but i don't think this would happen), this would make the display un breakable .
I hope to see the full new specs soon.
