A minor correction, Kenny - that's a state school, not a public school. A public school in the UK is a very exclusive private school. Schools like Eton, Harrow, and Rugby are public schools.

Reading the article, this sounds like an excellent idea. What the school is doing is using teachers in India not for the "normal" maths lessons, but to provide extra tuition for pupils falling behind in the subject who need extra help. It costs £12/hr to do this, compared to £40/hr for a private tutor in London. A significant cost saving.

Maybe a difference in terminology....here we have public and private schools. Public schools are those put in place and supported by the government. .

In other words state school = public school here.

Yes, I know - it's a different in terminology between Britain and the US. But calling a British state school a "public school" might lead to confusion

I do expect more and more on-line school, tutoring, etc. The technology certainly supports it these days.

It reminds me of our School of the Air (<---linky), just over 50 years old now, set up to serve children in remote outback areas.

maybe in some places. I don't know for sure. they are still struggling with getting the reservations wired. I know Bill Gates has put a lot of money towards that

Yep....it's really a travesty from what I know about it, for a number of reasons.

One of my best friends from H.S. lived on the Hopi reservation for a good long while where his wife taught school.

my Grandmother taught at BIA schools most of her career. about every other year I would live with her for a quarter of the school year and go to the school she was at.
