Hello I have Kindle 1 and now Kindle 2 many of the authors I read have disabled TTS. I have a long commute 3hours and have enjoyed using my kindle2 to read. Example is Vincent Flynn's Mitch Rapp series. I listened to several and then cut off from TTS. Does anyone know how to reenable TTS. Thank you in Advance. jake80

It is possible now using Calibre (by updating all the metadata), but under Windows the most straight forward approach is probably to use Mobi2Mobi v0.13 - GUI for Mobiperl tools. What you would be looking to change would be exthtype 404 (TTSflag). Note that Amazon itself says that TTS is a protected fair use, so only the publisher disagrees and they are almost certainly wrong.

I popped in here to look for this very topic.
I really want and need to re-enable TTS, but I do not understand any of that. I have heard of calibre but I do not know what metadata is and I looked at that link and I do not understand anything on that thread at all.
Is there anything that is easy for a simpleton to do?

It's against MR policy to give instructions on DRM removal. But google is your friend.

All you need to do is learn how to run a program (python script ) from the command line and find the script MobiDeDRM.py .

I'm not asking about removing the DRM. All I'm interested in is enabling TTS on my MOBI format Kindle books.

Is there a way in Calibre to edit/re-enable the TTS flag _without_ forcing a MOBI->MOBI conversion?

IOW, I don't want to risk the book formatting change, all I want is TTS enabled on books that are not DRMed?

The mobi to mobi conversion only changes a few items in the header of the file. It will not cause a problem with reformatting of the book itself.

That is DRM removal. Whether or not a book has TTS enabled is a part of the digital rights for the book.

MobiPerl can enable TTS without removing the MOBI/AZW ebook's encryption. It is probably easiest used via Mobi2Mobi v0.13 - GUI for Mobiperl.
