christmas kindle creates a convert!

i have a cybook gen3, and i loved it - have read hundreds of books on it, and while everything isn't perfect, it has been a great reading experience.

i got the kindle for pc software because there was a few free kindle books i wanted to read, and i told my son when i hit 100 kindle books, i wanted a kindle. that happened in early november, and i had hints a kindle was coming my way. i picked up a cover in case it was true, and continued finding more free ebooks on amazon - i think i had 140 on christmas plus 8 pre-orders.

wow, do i love my kindle 3. it's very well made, fast, and the sharp print and ways to organize your books is wonderful. i wanted the wifi version, and hooking up to my wifi took less than a minute. the cover i chose - this one http://www.amazon.com/JAVOedge-MiMo-...551796&sr=8-16 was a perfect choice for me.

all in all, i couldn't be happier. i'm sure i'll get back to my cybook at some point, but it'll be a while as the kindle is such a nice reading experience, and it's not only full of books already but i got an amazon gift certificate which went to more books.

wanted to thank the folks here - reading all the threads, particularly ones about kindle support, is what made me decide i wanted one of these beasts.

gotta go - it's time to do some reading

Hey basschick! What a good son you have. He actually listened and gave you what you wanted!

I remember when you were first deciding on which reader to buy cause I was a new kid as well. I'm glad you got good service from your Cybook and hope you enjoy your new Kindle.

Check out the links in my sig for some fun stuff you can do with your Kindle. Welcome to the club!

Looked up the Bookeen Cybook and it looks interesting. What does the kindle have that the Cybook did not have? What got you to switch?

I told my wife i wanted a Kindle for christmas this year and i got one! I am so happy with it. I chose it over other e-readers for its good reviews on ease of use and also specifically for its 3g internet access since I am in the Army and am often in places with no computer. I also will enjoy reading books on it since I am not one to read very often, I thought having an e-reader would help me get into reading a bit more.

i didn't switch - i plan to use both. if i was getting my first reader, it probably would be a kindle.

but the kindle has all those free ebooks, and often new ones pop up including best sellers and recent books that are actually on my to-read list, plus daily specials for $2.99 each. and i've found some older novels i used to read in ebook format on amazon and nowhere else. one was a whopping 99 cents.

then if you read a lot of mobile read threads, you'll hear many great stories about kindle customer service. as far as i can tell, they may have the best customer service of any ebook reader. hopefully i won't need customer service, but if i do, this is definitely a company that takes care of their customers.

and there's a huge selection of covers for it, which was nice because i really love the cover i got.

one last thing that made me want a kindle. my cybook reads mobi, which is nice but it's being supported less and less. a lot of recent books by larger and small publishers no longer seem to come in mobi. amazon seems to have really invested their resources in the kindle, probably more than any other reader. that makes me hope that the kindle book formats will continue to be used for the long haul. i could be proved wrong, but amazon does seem very dedicated to their ebook reader.

I am glad that you are enjoying your Kindle. If you have non-DRMed Mobi books you can convert those and put them on your Kindle.

you don't even have to convert them - the kindle reads mobi

I love my Kindle, which I purchased in early December. My biggest challenge has been deciding which book to read next!

Welcome to the forum nomiqayum. Every book lover I know got a new Kindle this year for Christmas. Most of them was because they saw mine. I even told one guy on the phone, a business associate whom I've never met, about the Kindle and he bought one for his wife for Christmas. He phoned me just to tell me how much she loves it.

yeah, i know what you mean. i have over 140 books plus a few i bought, and at least 100 would count as "to read next" books - but i can't read them ALL next
