Yes, but Blackpool Illuminations has always been an autumn thing rather than specifically Christmas. It's Christmas that seems to get earlier and earlier in the supermarkets. They used to at least have the decency to wait until Hallowe'en was over.

At least the village where I live is pretty "traditional" still. They don't put up lights and a Christmas tree until about a week before Christmas.

My son made Christmas Puddings and Christmas cake last weekend - and will now "feed" them with brandy on a regular basis until Dec 25th. Then we will eat them and sleep for two days.

Not even the small towns here-abouts have started. Not too sure about Aberdeen street lights, but the shops are beginning to advertise their wares. And the TV adverts have started !

We have a kind of "hybrid" Christmas - me being a foreigner. Traditionally the big celebration is on the 24th - special meal, usually of duck with apples and prunes, brown and white potatoes, red cabbage and what have you and a dessert of cold rice pudding (better than it sounds!) - singing and dancing round the Christmas tree and gifts. The best meal though is a cold table - upteen small dishes, not all of them cold, that goes on for hours. Should happen on the 25th, but a lot of people have it on the 26th and/or 27th, so the 25th can be a bit of a quiet day, (except we still have Christmas stockings - when else could Santa deliver them?).
