Light for dark reading
I'm looking for a case/light combo for reading in the dark. A lot of reviews I've read mention dim light but not dark/no light. Currently I'm looking at the Sony case with light but I'd really like to have something more secure, as I travel a lot, but I need a good light too.
I've heard a lot of good things about m-edge brand cases, but the m-edge website says that they no longer sell the e-luminator for the prs 600...though it is purchasable through Amazon... Any input? I do a lot of reading with the lights off (don't have much choice in the barracks) Edit: I've also toyed with the idea of a book armor and a mightybright thin (http://www.mightybright.com/Book_Lig...uctDetail.html) But again I wanna make sure I have good illumination Last edited by jduvall; 08-30-2010 at 11:29 PM. |

I have a Mighty Bright travelflex combined with both a BookArmor and a M-Edge executive case. The travelflex works great with both, you can clip the light on the "spine" of both cases. If you fold back the front of the BookArmor it's a perfect match.
You do need to change batteries regularly, if I use the light every night for 1-2 hours I have to change the battery once a week. Mighty Bright has lights with longer battery life but those will be too big to clip on the casing as easily as the travelflex. For me it gives more than enough light to read comfortably. |

e-Bay also has a lot of the Sony lights. Some of the other e-Luminator's might fit, they just might be a titch too long. I used a Kindle 2 e-Luminator with a Nook case for a little while and it only hung out of the Nook case by less than a 1/4". I didn't feel it was exposed.

So it sounds like all the options are decent choices? I'm not worried about storing the light with the reader/case. I'd rather have a case that provides some protection and a light that can attach to the case while reading...
The bookarmor I was looking at This and This mighty bright are looking mighty attractive, but the light is what concerns me, will it provide enough 'lume from the side or it a top mounter? I've looked at the flex lights but the clip base concerns me, I've had bad luck with those pressure clips breaking Then again the Sony case doesn't look bad but never having seen one its hard to judge it |

I have the Sony light and i think it works well. It is quite dim, but when used in a completely dark room or under minimal lighting conditions it's just about perfect. Not too bright as to wake the missus.
You do have to position the lamp to avoid the glare. |

I have both the sony lighted cover and the mighty bright flex 2.
I have always used mighty brights for my ereaders as they are so good. Batteries last months in mine, but they are bulky and add weight to the reader. Very bright, very reliable. They do take 3 batteries though, but they do last months. I had the lightwedge cover for my sony 505 and hated it, I have never used it, so was dubious about buying the lighted cover for my 600. I just got one recently and absolutely love it. The light is more gentle than the mighty brights, but I have found I actually prefer it and in darkness the light is just perfect. It does not glare but gives a very natural light to screen, as though it is in daylight, my mighty bright just glares, I prefer the sony light myself. The cover is really lovely quality too, far nicer than my 505 one was. The light mechanism is very neat and does not add much bulk to the reader, in fact I like to hold the reader where the light housing is. The cover also bends back on itself very easily. I have used mine daily for a month now and no sign of the light dimming yet, so the single battery works well. I prefer to have the light at the left edge of the screen, rather than the top, it gives a very even light this way. Depends what you want really, mighty brights are fab and you can use them on anything, they are very bright but bulky. The sony lighted cover is very neat, has a natural light and you will always have a light handy. |

I don't know for sure if that clip works with the BookArmor. It's too wide to clip on the spine and the BookArmor has raised edges and I expect that Mighty Bright clip won't stay on or even snap.
I use mine when the light is very dim or in complete darkness. When it's light during the day the TravelFlex and the eLuminator doesn't do much. |
